Beginner's guide - an introduction to pardus

Welcome to the Triad and to pardus - here we'd like to offer you some advice how to start out, make some credits, kill your first space maggot, ysd, isp,..



Read through the First Day Tips, Newbie's guide and do the Tutorial Lessons, it will spare you wasted time and some frustration and disappointment when your sabre gets blown to pieces by an FSP.

Now, you know your way around, have mined some ore, killed a few sm and jumped to the next system.

you'll find a map of the known universe, a very useful tool you'll need all through your career.

There's also a lot of information in - some values are outdated but especially the part on enemies gives you an idea of what you can kill and what not (yet). There's also an online version available

Join the federation.

If you started in the empire and want to be a Triad, I suggest you either travel to the federation core (around Sol) to join our faction or to delete your account and start again as a Keldon or Rashkir (I'd choose Keldon if I had the choice again since I find their starting boni most useful - is an overview of all the different races).

Do some trading (the shows you where the goods go) and cargo missions until you can afford to buy a wasp. It's better than the sabre, do not spend any credits on buying bigger guns, armor,.. for that sabre! It's a waste.

Now, you should have 3 goals.

1. Gain rank. As you climb the ladder of federation ranks, better ships become available to you. are all the ships listed. You gain rank much faster than xp, so even if some of the standard ships might be better, you'll have that fed fighter or freighter much ealier.

2. Gain 1K (1000) xp and play 50K ap - which equals 10 days - so you can join us. As soon as you meet those conditions, apply to the Triad under "Diplomacy" -> "Alliances" -> "The Triad"

3. Build. You need 100xp for your 1st, 1K xp for your 2nd, 10K 3rd and so on building. Most (potential) Triads construct a space farm first, since a wasp holds enough material for those and they are the backbone of a healthy economy. If you show some promise and are really interested in joining us, we'll help you buy construction materials, upgrade and supply it. The 2nd and 3rd building slot are usually filled with more profitable buildings, the 4th slot is usually reserved for MO (Military Outposts) or TO (Trade Outposts).


1. Rank
You can accept missions at planets and starbases - only the light blue Federation jobs increase your rank. You can do cargo missions as long as you have the capacity, however kill-missions are more efficient.

Here's a suggestion how to equip that wasp:
Sell the mining laser and buy 2 5MW Impulse Lasers. They are 28K credits each - if you have only enough for that wasp, sell the mining laser and do some trading. you have a production tree to find out which goods go where. EE, Faexe, Sol, AC and Ericon are all good places to do trading, however AC and Ericon might be even better because we fix prices

Or you can always ask Triads nicely for a loan, they might just give it to you.

Your standard drive and armor are ok for now.

Now, stack missions. I.e. if you take

"kill 3 sm"
"kill 2 sm"
"kill sm in sol at 3,8"
"kill 4 sm"
"kill sm in sol at 19,24"
"kill 4 sm"

you'll only have to kill those 2 at given locations and two more to complete all 6 missions.
Be careful not to take more jobs than you can handle, because failed missions decrease your rank thrice as much as one successful mission increases it.

Rinse, repeat until you become a corporal. That's when you are allowed to buy a Thunderbird, a very good hybrid ship.

Having recently followed this guide and joined the Triads, I'd like to point out one more detail...

If you had, indeed, started a new account as a Keldon and intend to fly all the way to the Federation to join up, please note that the Triad has blocked off Pass FED-02 with MOs. You'll need to contact Atrellium to ask for passage through them. It would save you some time if you did that before reaching FED-02.
